20. Nissan Sentra: 184,618 Units
Squeaking into the top 20 is the Nissan Sentra, but the news for Nissan still isn't great. Sentra sales for 2019 were down 13.3 percent compared to last year.

19. Jeep Cherokee: 191,397 Units
SUVs are booming, but Cherokee sales were down a whopping 20 percent from last year. Still, it was enough to break into the top 20.

18. Nissan Altima: 209,183 Units
Nissan is struggling overall, but it does have some strong sellers. The Altima finished the year up ever-so-slightly at 0.2 percent compared to 2018.

Ford's strategy of going all-in on SUVs might not be paying off. Escape sales were down 11.8 percent in 2019, and aside from the F-150 which we'll see later, it's the only Ford to break into the top 20.

Despite a flat sales curve to end the year, the Grand Cherokee finished 2019 8 percent higher.

Tacoma sales rose slightly in 2019, climbing 1.3 percent.

The Nissan Altima's showing proved sedans aren't dead yet, and the Accord just missed making the top 10. Sales for the popular car were down 8 percent.

The Corolla's popularity has it in the top 10, and it bucks the trend of declining sedan/hatchback sales by posting a very small gain of 0.3 percent for 2019.

The Civic almost had a year-over-year sales increase for 2019. It ultimately finished the year down 0.03 percent. Honda sold just 110 more Civics last year.

The best-selling sedan in the U.S. for 2019 is the Toyota Camry. Despite increasing competition from SUVs and crossovers, Camry sales fell just 1.8 percent.

The CR-V is as popular as ever, with 2019 sales up slightly at 1.3 percent.

The RAV4 is the best-selling SUV in America, and its sales are rising. The SUV enjoyed a 4.9 percent jump compared to 2018.

3. Chevrolet Silverado: 575,600 Units
The top three spots are dominated by trucks, and the Silverado fell to third place with a year-over-year drop of nearly 2 percent.

The refreshed Ram may not be the best-selling vehicle in America, but with a whopping 18 percent year-over-year sales improvement, it could well be the premier success story of 2019.

1. Ford F-Series: 896,526 Units
Once again, the F-Series rules America by a wide margin. It's not all good news, however, because sales actually fell 1.4 percent versus 2018. With Ram improving by leaps and bounds, we suspect more than a few people in Ford's executive offices are a bit nervous right now.

2020 is finally upon us, and with all major automakers reporting sales, we can see which vehicles were the most popular. It should be no surprise that pickup trucks continue to rule the roost, and Ram made perhaps the best showing out of everything sold in the U.S. last year. Does that mean it's the best-selling vehicle? No, but if the trend continues, such an upset is certainly in the realm of possibilities.
This top-20 list isn't entirely trucks and SUVs. Sedans and hatchbacks from Toyota and Honda continue to do well, and Nissan even has a few bestsellers in the mix despite having a rough year. Speaking of rough, you'll find only two Ford vehicles ranking in the top 20, and you can probably guess one of them right off the bat. We'll drop one spoiler for you – the Ford Explorer didn't make the cut, which is rather extraordinary considering machines such as the Jeep Cherokee and Nissan Rogue did. In fact, the Rogue is in the top 10.
